State/Lake Elevated Station Temporary Closure
How does this affect my trip?
Effective, Monday, January 5, 2026, the State/Lake Loop Elevated station will temporarily close.
Please use the accessible Clark/Lake or Washington/Wabash stations, located within a few blocks of the State/Lake station. To transfer between the Red Line at Lake station and the Loop ‘L’ lines, use Washington/Wabash.
Why is service being changed?
The new State/Lake elevated station is scheduled to open in 2029. It will replace one of the oldest stations on the CTA rail system with a modern facility designed to improve safety, accessibility, and comfort for all riders.

The Loop- bound platform at Western (Brown Line) is temporarily out-of-service

Kimball-bound Trains Bypass Western Station
How does this affect my trip?
Kimball-bound trains will not stop at the Western Brown Line station.
- For Kimball-bound service from this station, take a Loop-bound train to Damen and transfer to a Kimball-bound train.
- For Kimball-bound service to this station, take a Kimball-bound train to Rockwell and transfer to a Loop-bound train.
Allow extra travel time.
Note: For accessible boarding/exiting of Brown Line trains, use the Rockwell or Damen stations.

Elevator at Washington/Wabash Temporarily Out-of-Service
The Brown Line and Harlem-bound Green Line platform elevator at Washington/Wabash is temporarily out-of-service due to a electrical issue.
The elevator is currently estimated to return to service on Friday, February 20th, 2026. (Note: date subject to change).
Crews are working to return this elevator to service as quickly as possible.

Western Loop-bound Platform Elevator Out of Service
How does this affect my trip?
The Loop-bound platform elevator at the Western station will be temporarily out of service.
Entry/exiting from the Western Loop-bound platform will be available by escalator (entry only) and stairs only.
For accessible boarding/exiting of Loop-bound Brown Line trains:
• For service from Western, take a Kimball-bound train to Rockwell station and transfer to a Loop-bound train.
• For service to Western, take a Loop-bound train to Damen station and transfer to a Kimball-bound train.
• Use the adjacent accessible Damen and Rockwell stations.
Allow extra travel time.

We are upgrading the elevator at Western to ensure continued safe, accessible service.
