Current Service Alerts
Updated: Four-car trains return on select train lines on summer weekends
On the Brown, Orange and Purple lines we’re shortening the length of trains on some weekends where ridership is lower. Standard service frequency and operational hours will not be changed.
- When shorter trains are in place on these lines, 4-car lengths will run from Saturday morning at 3:30am through Monday morning at 3:30am.
- Longer trains will continue to run when high ridership is expected, or when there are major events or construction that may impact ridership.
These changes allow us to provide more efficient and reliable service by reducing wear and tear on train cars, enhancing safety and security and having cleaner railcars.
In general, look for signs overhead on platforms for your route that say “Board here” to ensure you’re waiting on a part of the platform where trains always stop.
Note:
- Blue Line trains are not affected by this alert. Blue Line trains will run at full length (8 cars) throughout the summer.
- Brown Line trains will run at full length, eight (8) cars, on weekends when higher ridership is expected to address potential crowding.
